Use case

Google Sheets #N/A error fixer for spreadsheet work.

Help Google Sheets users repair one formula returning #N/A when a lookup, FILTER, MATCH, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, or imported value does not match the source data the way the sheet author expects.

What this page gives you

  • A focused repair pass for one Google Sheets formula returning #N/A.
  • Checks for lookup keys, no-match FILTER results, range selection, hidden spaces, stored value types, and fallback placement.
  • A revised formula path you can test on one known match and one true missing value before changing a shared report.

When to use it

Use this page when Google Sheets returns #N/A, says it did not find a value, or shows no matches even though a lookup value or FILTER condition appears to match the source data. It is strongest when you can paste the formula, the source headers, and one value or row that should match.

Do not hide every #N/A with IFERROR before checking the source data. A missing match may be correct, while a surprising #N/A often points to the wrong range, stored text versus numbers, hidden spaces, or a fallback placed before the formula is understood.

Worked example

A product table in A2:D500 has SKU in the first column and status in the fourth column. E2 contains a SKU from an imported order file that should match the product table.

=IFNA(VLOOKUP(TRIM(E2),$A$2:$D$500,4,FALSE),"Not found")

The formula trims hidden spaces from the imported lookup value, searches the first column of the product table with exact match, and returns the status from column 4. The IFNA fallback appears only after the range and source values have been checked.

Check before you paste

  • Confirm the lookup or filter source range includes the row or column you expect to match.
  • Check whether the source value and lookup value are both text, both numbers, or both real dates.
  • Clean hidden spaces with TRIM only after confirming spaces are not meaningful in the source data.
  • Use IFNA for expected missing matches instead of wrapping every formula problem in IFERROR.
  • Test one known match and one true missing value before filling the repaired formula through a shared sheet.
