Use case

AI Google Sheets formula generator for spreadsheet work.

Generate a Google Sheets formula from a plain-English request when the job is one formula, one rule, or one repair rather than a full spreadsheet automation workflow.

What this page gives you

  • A Google Sheets formula draft generated from your plain-English request and pasted context.
  • A plain-English read of the function choice, columns, criteria, and expected spill behavior.
  • Paste checks for separators, header rows, output ranges, and Sheets-specific functions.

When to use it

Use this page when you want AI help writing a Google Sheets formula and still need to see the formula, assumptions, and paste checks before using it. It is strongest for formula-sized jobs like QUERY, FILTER, ARRAYFORMULA, REGEXEXTRACT, IMPORTRANGE, lookups, summaries, and custom rules.

Do not use Write My Formula as a replacement for tools that upload whole workbooks, chat with data files, build dashboards, generate charts, or automate a full spreadsheet workflow. It is intentionally narrower so you can inspect one formula before using it.

Worked example

For a table with Date in A, Region in B, Customer in C, and Amount in D, a Google Sheets QUERY formula can summarize April 2026 revenue by region.

=QUERY(A1:D500,"select B, sum(D) where A >= date '2026-04-01' and A < date '2026-05-01' group by B label sum(D) 'April revenue'",1)

The formula reads the source table, keeps April 2026 rows, groups them by region, and sums Amount. The checks tell you to confirm the Date column contains real dates and that the output area is empty before the formula spills.

Check before you paste

  • Check whether the formula uses comma or semicolon separators for your locale.
  • Confirm the output can spill into empty cells before using QUERY, FILTER, or ARRAYFORMULA.
  • Use a broader spreadsheet AI if you need file upload, data chat, charts, dashboards, or workbook-wide analysis.
